About Us
The Grand Forks District office of the Ministry of Children and Family Development is located in the Boundary Family Centre (Park Site), in the lower level of Selkirk College in Grand Forks (486B 72nd Avenue). The office is co-located with Boundary Family and Individual Services Society.

The following Ministry services are offered at the Grand Forks District Office:

1. Child Protection Services

The Child, Family and Community Services Act requires that anyone who has reason to believe that a child may be abused, neglected, or is for any other reason in need of protection, must report it to the Director or a delegated social worker. These reports are investigated by social workers, who take the most appropriate action that is least disruptive for the child. These actions may include:

  • providing or arranging the provision of support services to the family
  • supervising the child's care in the home, or
  • protecting the child through removal from the family and placement with relatives, a foster family or specialized residential resources
  • For child protection emergencies After Hours (including weekends and statutory holidays), call 310-1234 (toll-free)

2. Child and Youth Mental Health Services

Research shows that the average overall community prevalence rate for mental disorders in children and youth is 15%. This means that in BC, approximately 140,000 children and youth experience mental disorders causing significant distress and impairing their functioning at home, at school, with peers, or in the community. To reduce the burden of suffering resulting from children's mental illness, child and youth mental health services are offered by the Ministry for Children and Family Development. These services provide a wide range of community-based specialized mental health services to mentally ill children and their families.

3. Youth Justice Services

The Ministry of Children and Family Development provides youth probation and youth custody services to youth aged 12 to 17.
Services provided include:

  • alternative measures (diversion)
  • supervision and case management of youth who are subject to a bail or probation order
